Welcome to the website of Dr Brian Hawkins.

As a member of staff at the University of Bristol, Brian Hawkins developed a strong engineering geological research unit and supervised many PhD students. He has published extensively and was awarded a Doctor of Science degree for this work.

Brian took early retirement from the University to concentrate on his consultancy but still continues to provide lecture courses to Civil Engineering and Final Year Geology undergraduates.

He is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Materials Mineral and Mining and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation. He is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Geologist and European Engineer.

Committed to the development of engineering geology/geotechnical engineering, he has taken on a number of responsibilities in his profession.

Current Editor in Chief of the Bulletin of the International Association for Engineering Geology.

From his long experience in engineering geology/geotechnical engineering, Brian advises Local Authorities, Public Utilities, Contractors and Consultants, at conceptual stage and on practical aspects of the construction work as well as contractual discussions.

He advises insurance companies and lawyers and has been involved as an Expert Witness in mediation, arbitration and Court work, providing written and oral evidence.

Brian took early retirement from the University to concentrate on his consultancy but continues to lecture to Civil Engineers and final year Geology undergraduates.

From his long experience in engineering geology/geotechnics, he advises local authorities, public utilities, contractors and consultants both at the conceptual stage and on the practical aspects of construction works. In addition, he advises insurance firms and lawyers and has been involved as an Expert Witness in a number of arbitrations in Britain and abroad.
