Becoming increasingly involved in engineering works in the UK and abroad, he joined the British Geotechnical Association and subsequently became a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Materials, Minerals and Mining and the Institution of Highways and Transportation. Other professional memberships include the Geological Society, the British Tunnelling Society and the Quaternary Research Association. He is a Chartered Engineer, Chartered Geologist and European Engineer. Brian took early retirement from the University to concentrate on his consultancy but continues to lecture to Civil Engineers and final year Geology undergraduates. From his long experience in engineering geology/geotechnics, he advises local authorities, public utilities, contractors and consultants both at the conceptual stage and on the practical aspects of construction works. In addition, he advises insurance firms and lawyers and has been involved as an Expert Witness in a number of arbitrations in Britain and abroad. |
